We took Lucy, our 1973 Avion LaGrande 25′, out for her maiden trip earlier this month and had an AH-mazing time in our “new” trailer. She felt like a mansion in size compared to our little Uhaul CT-13, Sally. As we set up camp, we unrolled our awning and were met with a strong whiff of mildew… Ick.
We appreciate shade at our campsites, so we weren’t about to roll that awning back up just because it was stanky. (I spelled that wrong on purpose BTW.) But we knew the awning was definitely getting a bath before our next road trip.
So with a few simple supplies and a visit to Harbor Freight for a $20 car wash brush, we scrubbed Lucy’s awning clean. It took no time, well, not much time, and now we will have stink-free shade at our next campsite!
Awning Cleaning Solution recipe:
- 1 Tbsp Dish Soap
- 1 Tbsp Bleach
- 1 Gallon water
**This solution works great if you have a heavy mold or mildew build-up, but don’t use it too often. Please keep in mind that bleach is a harsh chemical so only use it when you really need it, but not too often. (Just a little product safety PSA for the day)
