It’s spring time. This means it is a great time to get outside and work in the garden without melting in the Texas heat. I thought today would be a perfect opportunity to introduce everybody to another side of Our Gold Road. Our home. Or more specifically, our backyard garden. A place where we like to hang out and spend time together as a family. It’s our own little outdoor oasis in the city.
Some of y’all probably already know me as the man behind (and sometimes in front of) the camera for Our Gold Road youtube videos. I am also the man behind our backyard retreat, Daphne’s playground, as well as our ever expanding vegetable garden.
Even now as I write this, I think about the irony of that statement. First of all, when I first met Donna, I told her that I didn’t even own a hammer. Now I have a DIY (or more specifically a “Honey-do”) list that is ever growing. Second, anybody who knows me will tell you that I don’t eat a bunch of veggies. Heck, my sister and brother had to pay me a dollar to simply take a bite of a tomato when I was a kid. Now I have 17 tomato plants scattered around our backyard.
And now, I am outside each day tending our garden and even building raised garden beds as a side hustle. I guess I got a bit of a green thumb from my dad and grandmother after all.
I did say “Green” thumb, right? It’s more like olive green than bright green, but I’m learning as I go. To be honest, current world conditions due to this pandemic have encouraged us to expand our urban homesteading skills.
Blogging is new to me, and another skill I will build with practice. And as I do, I hope you will come back and join us as we continue sharing the fun (Daphne), creative (Donna), and usually useful (myself) projects we do around this home and yard of ours.
