Home Sweet Taiwan

When I was little, we spent several summers in Taiwan with my family. The trip we made last year to introduce Trevor and Little D was the first time I returned in 20 years. I had been away for WAY too long.

Trevor and I got married in 2011, and I had yet to take him back to meet my family. After Little D was born, I knew I wanted to take her as soon as she was old enough to remember the trip. Last year in 2019, my mom insisted we go with her back home, and we agreed it was time.

Before having Little D, we had traveled together to Mexico, Barbados, Fiji, New Zealand, and Australia before this trip. Still, he had never been to Asia and experienced such a wildly different culture. I had been telling him about Taiwan for years. I shared stories about my childhood, the street markets, the streets crammed with scooters (and bikes when I was young), the food carts, the night markets, the shopping, the countryside, and more.

They were overwhelmed (in a good way) with all the sights and experiences. Taipei is an energetic, bustling city with a TON of sights to see, places to shop, trails to hike (and you know we want to do ALL the cool trails), things to eat, and temples to visit.

Trevor and Little D had never seen anything like these temples before, so we took them to the must-see Longshan Temple and the national monument and famous landmark, the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Park.

Later in our trip, they also got to visit the Fushan Temple in Juifen (in Part 3 video), the Great Buddha of Baguashan Temple in Changhua (in Part 4 video), and the Tian Tan Buddha in Hong Kong (in Part 5 Video).

There was so much to see and do; we made our Taiwan/Hong Kong trip a 5 part video series! Here’s Part 1. Little D gets her groove on in the opening, and Trevor thinks he’s funny in his editing of the intro… 😂
